Roomspiration Blog Party Starts Now!

Whoa! Last week really got away from me. Sorry for the delay in posts! It’s Monday morning and we just drove up to our house after an overnight roadtrip to Michigan. I’m lookin’ pretty road-trip cute right now too. I’m glad this is not a video blog.

So today is an exciting day! It’s the first day of the Roomspiration Blog Hop and Linky Party!

I’m linking up my entryway to Abode Love, and you can check out lots of entryway inspiration there today. It’s worth the trip just to see Abode Love’s stunning room!

I haven’t talked about my foyer much, because it’s still pretty lame. Here’s what it looks like on an average day:

The fabulous mirror was a mere $7 at a yard sale. I snatched it up and threw the money at the sellers before they could change their minds. But otherwise, the foyer is pretty bland and blue and brown right? Maybe it’s just that fall is beginning, but I’m dying for some color there!

I believe an entryway should welcome your guests to your home, and provide a helpful station to practice their ABCs.

Did you see the little table next to the door? (Andy’s going to kill me for posting this.) When we were first married, we rented a teensy house (700 square feet) with a miniature foyer. We couldn’t find any tables small enough to fit there, so Andy decided to build our own. Only he had never built furniture before. It was a good effort, but a pretty sad result.

Several years and two cross-country moves later, the legs are falling off, and I don’t even think we sanded between stain coats. It’s just a placeholder now, for when Andy builds me something much more marvelous. (And he’s much more skilled now, thankfully.)

So here’s my plan for the entryway.

I want to replace the rug with something colorful and tribal, maybe like this:

Paint the back of the door a fun color, maybe yellow or red. (You know, to make the magnetic alphabet pop!)

Then, replace the sad, sweet little table with a DIY version of something like this:

Add an actual grown-up vignette on top. Something simple like this, but much smaller:
Photo from pinterest but the link is dead – do you know the source?

So maybe the end result will be something like this:

WHOA. We’ve entered another dimension!! Try not to be jealous of my photoshop skills. I don’t operate in three dimensions.

So that’s the general idea. I’ll take you along as I go, but this room will have to wait on some living room updates I have in store. I’ll show you the first round Wednesday, which will also be the Roomspiration Living Rooms link-up day!

Don’t forget to link up your living rooms right here on Wednesday morning!

  1. Haha I love to see bad photoshops, they are the best kind, I know, I am the master of bad photoshopping! But that was great – you really can see your vision. That rug would be awesome.

My entry is a BLANK slate… It’s really narrow in there and even though it’s the first thing people see when they visit, I feel like it’s not as important as the other rooms, so it has been neglected. So sad!

  2. I barely have an entry and have almost zero wallspace so I haven’t really done anything with it. I love your plans…but I must say I think it looks pretty good now…hubby homemade table and all. haha. The new rug you selected is slammin’ though and I love having a pop of color on the door.

  3. There’s no changing your mind now. That would be stunning all together, even with the alphabet letters. Maybe your son can learn to spell “welcome” first. Can’t wait to see your link up on Wednesday!

  4. I, for one, LOVE your current rug so if you get rid of it I’ll take it off your hands. 🙂 I love the orange you want to incorporate…maybe you could start by putting some fun orange accessories on your current table?

  5. I think that will look really good. Definitely go for that rug, it’s amazing. I love your Photoshop skillz. They are as good as mine, lol.

  6. I love the color of your entryway. You can do so much with it. I am one of your co-hosts on Roomspiration and am now your latest follower. I am going to do my living room post tomorrow so that I can link up with your leg on Wednesday. I would love for you to stop by and say hi and consider following me back. Thanks.

  7. Oh! Your husband’s table is so sweet and so is the plastic alphabet on the door. You just watch…both will be popping up on Pinterest as trends 🙂
I do, however, like your plan for the space. That rug is to die for!

  8. I like your lame entry. I think it’s very pretty. I like pieces that are built with love.

I do like your plan for the space. I think we should start giving Photoshop lessons. Sharing the wealth of our impressive skills…

  9. I’m really diggin the magnetic alphabet! I’ll be sure not to show it to EC, her’s is all plan without eyes or anything cool like that.
Seriously, I love the look of the new table for the entry way. I cannot wait to see a diy version!!

  10. What a fun blog-hop!! I love your plan for your entryway. I am really missing having one- the house we’re renting is so tiny that the front door opens right into the living room. There’s kinda sorta a little space that I could try to define as an entry, but it’s taken up by a gigantic radiator. I’ll just have to get ideas from the blog hop for my future entryway!

  11. Your plan looks awesome and that rug is so pretty! Love it!

  12. That is hardly LAME at all, silly! 😉 It is completely bright, beautiful and endearing! I would feature a whole scrapbooking page or layout with that photo. When your kids have moved out of the house you will look back at that photo and smile. I love it! Can’t wait to see your living room and all the others! FUN fun! 🙂

  13. Love the vibrant colors in the rug! Oh! the source for the vignette is
    nyclq-focalpoint.blogspot.com.

  14. You are so funny! I actually like your foyer……..but apparently you want more color. I can’t wait to see it finished. Will it be any time soon? This blog hop thing is going to be fun 🙂

  15. That’s one of my favorite color combinations. Beautiful rug and love the wall color! 🙂 I’m looking forward to seeing the change although it’s pretty now too – so peaceful!

    Can’t wait until tomorrow! 😉

  16. My photoshop skillz could change the world too 🙂 Perhaps we need to have a photoshop contest?! I love the look you have put together – can’t wait to see how it all looks. Andy definitely deserves a pat on the back for this little table. My guy would laugh me out of the room if I asked him to make a table from scratch!

  17. I’ve chosen you for Versatile Blogger. See my blog for details.
