We finally conquered Mount Everest!
In this case, Mount Everest is not the tallest mountain in the world, which many brave souls train for years to conquer. It’s a tiny little home project, which no brave souls in our house were willing to attempt for years because it was just so annoying.
(Actually, this is nothing like Mount Everest. But I’m glad it’s done!)
When we first bought our house, we had carpet installed upstairs right off the bat, but we knew we wouldn’t be installing carpet in the guest bath (obvs), so we had the carpet installers leave an unfinished edge there where it would meet the tile once we installed it. We installed the tile, but the carpet has just stayed there, unfinished, nagging at me ever since.
When you close the bathroom door, this is what you saw:
Finally we were like: ENOUGH. Time to conquer this beast. We pulled back the carpet to see what we were dealing with. Where the carpet meets the tile is this tack strip. We started by cutting the carpet until it met the tile in a straight line.
It was ALREADY better. Why did it take us this long to do this?!
We found this brilliant gleaming brass carpet edging at the home improvement store for about seven bucks.
Spray-painted it oil-rubbed bronze:
Then screwed that bad boy in:
We may have actually nailed it in, but “we” weren’t the ones doing the screwing/nailing – it was all Andy. So I’m just guessing.
SO MUCH BETTER, right?
Everest, conquered. Have a great weekend!
Isn’t it amazing how much those little things help? Looks great! and I LOVE your tile!
Sometimes I really think those small details are the hardest to complete. It looks great! And, hello, awesome idea with the spray painted transition strip!! It never even occurred to me.
you’re too funny! why is that a project can look so difficult but be so easy? it took me about 9 months to recover my dining room chairs (the whole time my mom is sending me ads of other chairs to purchase) and when i actually did it, it was so easy! i need to start remembering that. 🙂
have a lovely weekend!!
Haha! It must feel so good to have that project finished.
I have about a million of projects like that. Completing one would be just as satisfying as tackling a big project, take less time and $$$, so why don’t I do them already?
The small things ARE the hardest to conquer. Like the vase that has been sitting in our sink for, oh, 2 months because I just don’t want to wash it. And those leftovers that I just let stew in my fridge for the better part of a year. (Did I just confess that again?) Your update makes the doorway look so much better!
Hope your week is off to a good start!!
I know Jen already commented, but I have to say I LOVE THIS POST!! There are a million things that I don’t do, and then when I actually do them it took me all of 20 minutes and I am so annoyed I didn’t do it 6 months earlier. 🙂 Thanks for keeping it real! Love it!
Well I’m glad to know I have company in my refusal to complete jobs. Why do we do this? Start something, get 99.9% of the way finished and then walk away. Grrrr, annoying but your completed project looks fab!
Looks great. You must be thrilled you got that one over with.
I’m curious, did the spray paint finish hold up? It seems to me that it would scrape off with repeated foot traffic. I am faced with this same problem. My local Home Depot doesn’t carry antique bronze transition strips, just silver and gold.
Great post — beautiful tile also!
